Burnsco, New Zealand’s leading marine and outdoor retailer, and official supporter of Melanoma New Zealand, launched a new, nationwide fishing competition, Burnsco Family Fish Off, designed to bring Kiwis together, with all entry fee proceeds being donated to Melanoma New Zealand.
The competition runs from 1 January to 31 March 2026, inviting anglers of all ages to compete for a share of an incredible $50,000+ prize pool. Registrations are now open, and close on 23 March 2026.
Participants can enter across six species categories: Blue Cod, Snapper, Gurnard, Kingfish, Kahawai, and Trevally.
The competition features two divisions:
- Adult division: First, second, and third longest fish for each species.
- Junior division: First longest fish for each species.
Both divisions are eligible for the Average Length prize for each species.
The entry fees are:
- Adults $30.00 (open to all anglers of any age).
- Juniors $20.00 (open to anglers aged 14 or under as of 1 January 2026).
See the competition’s full rules and regulations for more information.
There will be spot prizes throughout the competition, making this an exciting event for families and fishing enthusiasts alike.
“We’re proud to support Melanoma New Zealand to promote sun safety and raise awareness about melanoma,” says Mark Rusher, Executive General Manager, Burnsco. “Boaties and anglers are at a higher risk of skin cancer due to the extended time they spend outdoors, and because reflections from water and sand can increase UVR (ultraviolet radiation).”
“Melanoma is New Zealand’s most serious type of skin cancer, and raising awareness about prevention and early detection saves lives,” says Andrea Newland, Chief Executive, Melanoma New Zealand. “We’re so grateful for Burnsco’s support and the opportunity to remind New Zealanders to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide while enjoying the outdoors.”
